Our AeroPress Espresso and Coffee Maker review is all thanks to Alton Brown. Easily my favorite celebrity chef and food personality, Alton Brown is known for choosing only the most versatile cooking gadgets (have you ever seen Good Eats? Best. Show. Ever.). That extends to Alton Brown’s favorite coffee maker.
Read on to see if Brown’s taste in coffee matches your own, or if this coffee and espresso maker is best left alone. Or, if you love Keurig and want to try one of their newest model, check out our Keurig K-Duo Vs Keurig K-Duo Plus review.
What is the AeroPress Espresso and Coffee Maker?
This is an immersion coffee maker able to produce both espresso and American-style coffee. It all relies on air pressure and takes less than a minute to make the perfect cup (30 seconds to be exact).
Using the AeroPress is very simple. Just add the coffee and some hot water into the puck and screw that onto the coffee maker. Add hot water, hold over you mug and squeeze down. In seconds you’ll have a hot, steaming cup of your favorite coffee. Customizing the coffee amount and water is simple.
Depending on how much water you add, this will make one to three cups of espresso or coffee. The parts are simple to clean and everything is BPA and phthalate free. If you’re looking for a complete coffee machine, then check out our review of the best single-serve coffee makers.
Benefits of the AeroPress Espresso and Coffee Maker
We covered how the AeroPress is easy to use, so that’s an obvious benefit, but there’s so much more. This is where we see why Alton Brown, a self-professed coffee lover, adores this coffee press so much.
As we said before, it only takes 30 seconds to make coffee or espresso. That’s convenient, but there’s much more to it. The shorter brew time and lower temperature results in significantly less acid than with French presses and conventional coffee makers. This means your cup is smooth, smoother than any you’ve ever had.
You also get 350 microfilters to use with this espresso maker. The microfilters prevent any grit from getting into your cup. Those who have French presses can attest to how annoying a mouthful of coffee grit can be. It keeps your cup free from particles. You can even store the pure coffee to be used later as a concentrate.
Lightweight and Compact
Other coffee makers and espresso presses are large and bulky. That means they can’t go with you on trips. However, the AeroPress Espresso and Coffee Maker is incredibly light and compact. This means you can take it anywhere. Whether you want a strong espresso at work or a good coffee while traveling, you can take this press with you.
Weighing just under a pound and measuring 9.5” high and 4” wide, this can be brought anywhere you go. It’s the ideal travel companion for the coffee aficionado.
AeroPress Problems
There’s only one small problem and it’s only because we’re being picky with our AeroPress Espresso and Coffee maker review (you could say we’re being “pressed” to find a problem, but that’s a bad pun).
The only problem is that this isn’t great for a family of coffee drinkers. It can make one to three cups at a time. That’s great for one or maybe two people, but it’s not ideal for more people. However, this is a very small issue. If you need a full pot of coffee, then check out our list of the best coffee makers.
Final Thoughts
Whether you love Alton Brown, coffee, or using new kitchen gadgets, our AeroPress Espresso and Coffee Maker review found that this is one of the most unique espresso presses on the market. It’s highly compact, easy to use, significantly reduces acidity, and provides a superior cup of espresso or American coffee. Give this a try and see just why Alton Brown loves it so much.
