Much like with Instant Pot, they are obsessed with creating appliances that have multiple functions, lots of power, and are highly versatile. However, that doesn’t mean that everything they make is great. Is the Ninja Air Fryer Max XL any good?

The Ninja Air Fryer Max XL can obviously air fry, but this is a Ninja appliance, what else can it do? You don’t really want to get an air fryer that only has one function, right? Get the biggest bang for your buck possible.
The Max XL Air Fryer has seven functions. It can air fry, max crisp, air roast, air broil, bake, dehydrate, and reheat. It’s functions impressed us so much that we placed it on our best air fryer list.
You should have no problem recognizing what they do (though Ninja loves adding the word “air” to certain features), but what is max crisp? Isn’t air frying supposed to crisp the food? This function uses extra heat to make the food even crispier. If you’re dedicated to the crunch and crisp of breaded food, like air fryer onion rings and chicken fingers, then this will be your favorite feature.
Overall, the Ninja Air Fryer Max XL is off to an impressive start. But, can it keep it up? Keep going and find out.
Capacity
You don’t give your air fryer the name “Max XL” without making it huge, right? This air fryer definitely has a respectable size, there’s no doubt about that. Our Ninja Air Fryer Max XL review found that it has a 5.5qt fryer basket, which should be enough for most families.
This can make a total of 3 pounds of fries or chicken wings at once. That’s all the ceramic-coated frying basket. This should be a good enough for many people, but it’s not the biggest on the market.
If 3 pounds of food sounds like enough, then the Max XL is still a great air fryer with lots of features. If, on the other hand you were looking for a smaller unit, then the Ninja Air Fryer standard is 4qt and 2 pounds of food, which should be good for smaller families.

Temperature and Power
An air fryer has to reach high temperatures in order to make crispy, delicious food. So, how does the Nina Air Fryer Max XL stack up? Most air fryers reach a maximum temperature of 350-400 degrees, which is good enough crispy food, but hotter is better.
The Max XL reaches a maximum temperature of 450 degrees. That’s hot enough to make anything crispy. It’s also easy to adjust both the time and temp with the control panel. The Ninja Air Fryer Max XL recipe book will tell you the ideal time and temp for most foods, so just follow the instructions and you’ll be good.
What about power? This unit is very strong at 1750W. You’ll have no problem cooking anything and crisping it fast. Comparing this to a similar air fryer, the Power XL Vortex Air Fryer’s strongest model is 1700W.
If you want food fast, hot, and crispy, then the Max XL has you covered.
Ninja Air Fryer Max XL Accessories
What Ninja Air Fryer Max XL accessories do you get? While this isn’t a huge grab bag of stuff, you do get a few things. You of course get the 5.5qt air fryer basket, but you can’t really call that an accessory since it’s required.
You get a broil rack that brings the food right up to the broiler to make it even crispier. There’s also a recipe guide with 20 different recipes to help get you started.
While you don’t get the most accessories here, the main unit and all it’s features should be enough for most people.
Build Quality
The first thing anyone would say about Ninja is that they’re innovative. The second thing is that their appliances are built very well, and the Max XL Air Fryer really shows that off. Both the crisper plate and fryer basket are ceramic-coated.
This material is highly durable and nonstick without that conventional (and potentially toxic) nonstick coating you find on pots and pans. You’ll also feel the quality whenever you lift the air fryer or touch the control panel. Everything feels dense and well put together.
This is an air fryer that is made to last and is very powerful.
Final Thoughts
So, is the Ninja Air Fryer Max XL any good? According to our review this is a very strong unit with a high maximum temperature, the ceramic coating is safe and convenient, and you get tons of features. The size is pretty good at 5.5qt. That should be enough for many families, but there are larger air fryers available if you need them.
